The Bug and Hawk Fires in Nevada burned from August 8, 2026 through September 9. The SBA Administrator signed the disaster declaration on September 11, two days after the incident period closed. The notice did not show up in the Federal Register until September 17, at 91 FR 58947.
So the people in Washoe County had a signed declaration sitting around for six days before the government bothered to print it. The physical loan clock, meanwhile, is already running toward November 10, 2026. Economic injury loans run all the way to June 11, 2027.
One county, three states of neighbors
The primary county is Washoe. That is Reno, Sparks, and a lot of high desert. The contiguous list is where this notice gets strange, because it is not just Nevada:
- Nevada: Carson City, Churchill, Humboldt, Lyon, Pershing, Storey.
- California: Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Placer, Sierra.
- Oregon: Harney, Lake.
If you live in Lake County, Oregon, you are on a Nevada fire notice. Same for Placer County, California. The SBA does this when a disaster sits on a state line. It is still easy to miss if you searched for Oregon or California and never thought to open a Nevada document.
The rates, copied from the table
Homeowners who cannot get credit elsewhere: 3 percent. Homeowners who can: 6 percent. Businesses without credit elsewhere: 4 percent. Businesses with it: 8 percent. Private nonprofits: 3.625 percent either way. Economic injury for businesses without credit elsewhere: 4 percent.
Those are the same numbers that showed up on the Indiana and North Dakota notices this month. The rate table is a stamp. What changes is who is in, and how long they waited.
Two days after the fire, six days after the signature
Incident period closed September 9. Signature September 11. Federal Register September 17. Declaration numbers 21869 for physical damage and 21870 for economic injury, filed as Nevada disaster number NV 20008.
Apply at the MySBA Loan Portal. The notice says so twice. If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, the notice says to dial 7 1 1 for relay services. That line is in almost every one of these. The part that is not in every one is the six day gap between a signature and a published page, while a November deadline is already on the calendar.
